DC System Life Expectancy Studies and Inspection Services

The DC system from the mainland to Vancouver Island is an important part of the network providing power to Vancouver Island. However, the DC system is approaching the end of its design life.

Teshmont provided life extension and asset evaluation services for BC Hydro’s HVDC equipment, which includes deterioration and degradation mode descriptions, end-of-life criteria definitions and descriptions, suggestions for the utility’s best practice for condition based maintenance processes, and suggestions for measurable parameters for assessing condition of the asset in terms of end-of-life.

Teshmont also provides expediting and inspection services related primarily to power and distribution transformers for equipment manufactured at Pauwels (previously Federal Pioneer) and at Carte International, both of Winnipeg and at Hyundai and Hyosung in South Korea. Equipment has included 90 MVA and 105 MVA, 1-phase 500 kV generator transformers, 500 MVA, 3-phase 500 kV auto transformers down to 100 kVA pole mount transformers, as well as 15 kV metal clad switchgear. 		 
 
   

Teshmont provided the following services to BC Hydro:

  • Life extension review services

  • Asset evaluation

  • Audits of transmission line and underground cable assets to determine that condition data is representative of the condition state identified in the records taken in the field during maintenance and inspections by BCTC

  • Expediting, manufacture and witnessing tests for two 500 MVA, 500/230 kV autotransformers at the Hyundai Plant in Korea

  • Expediting, manufacture and witnessing tests for a 233 MVA, 236/13.8kV, 3-phase generator transformer at the Hyosung Plant in Korea

  • Expediting and inspection services at Pauwels Canada for 90 MVA and 105 MVA generator transformers, and at Carte International for 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 kVA padmount transformers in Winnipeg
